Web Resource Evaluation

Topic: Elementary School Language Arts Website One: ABCya! Hyperlink:  http://www.abcya.com/ The reason as to why I chose this website is because it is extremely organized and a lot of fun! It is organized by grade level and each grade level includes up to forty games for language arts. It also includes games that can be categorized by Holiday which makes lessons plans even more fun for those special times of the year. The website also includes categories for families and teachers. It was created in 2018 and the links are extremely functional. The intended audience includes all elementary school grades and they have been accredited by The New York Times, Apple, USA Today, Parents Magazine and the Scholastic Company. There are no graphic or grammar errors in any of the games. The website exists to supplement learning material in classes and to give kids a way to learn and refine new skills in a fun way. I would give it a 50 on the scale! It is an A+ website. Website Two: Fun...

Normally through Twitter, I just interact with my friends. However, for this course I have mostly been interacting with the education research accounts and retweeting their material. I've found it beneficial because it has increased my knowledge in certain areas and has opened my eyes as to what is going on in the education field. I believe Twitter will help me in my future career by keeping me up to date on current events. The digital divide affects student success in schools by limiting the options that a lot of children have. It isn't fair for a child to be able to use the internet for a research project when another kid in that same class has to rent books from the library and use those. Also, because one child will have more experience with technology than the other, it will be easier for them to find a job in the work industry. Some of the causes for this divide include socioeconomic status and where in the area the children live. As a teacher, I need to make sure that t...

The ELA technology standards that I feel most prepared to teach with my prior knowledge are all those that have to do with literature and media. I have used technology with literature many times, including listening to an audiotape while in a classroom setting. I also have experience with digital textbooks and some experience with an interactive white board. The things that require more learning on my part are those that have to do with integrating media into different formats or adding references to the footnote of a page. I find those more advanced than the other topics. For example, I had trouble during the last skill check when we had to zip a file, I had never done so before and needed to look up instructions to help me.  With my students, I would like to use mostly websites rather than actual softwares. I think using a website that allows them to play games and learn on them is better than a software that a teacher cannot monitor because then a teacher cannot see if they...

As a student, I use Microsoft Word a lot. I've written numerous essays, research papers and lab reports. It's amazing seeing how I used to use it just for the word art part to make fun little signs when I was younger, to now writing ten page papers. My teachers also use it for the same things, from creating assignments to writing letters to parents and even lesson plans. Teachers can also use word to create certificates. Word has helped speed up the education process by changing things from handwriting to being typed and it also allows things to get shared across a wider space.  My experience with copyright and fair use of materials in an education environment has mostly been with videos and teachers being allowed to use certain videos to teach lessons. I also have my own experience with it whenever I have to cite things by using them. When developing lesson plans in a preschool, I have also had to pay for certain lesson plans or instruction sheets because they were under ...

Blog Post #1 There are many factors that have an influence on teachers and students using technology. Most importantly, the time period is what is causing technology to be more prevalent in the classroom setting.  Because technology now surrounds our everyday life, teachers must be able to master technology skills so that they can effectively teach students their own skills and prepare them for life in the job force. However, this skill also helps be more efficient them for their own tasks in the classroom such attendance, lesson plans and other technological classroom websites. One of the ISTE standards that is meaningful to me is " Educators inspire students to positively contribute to and responsibly participate in the digital world." I remember growing up and always commenting on blog posts or discussion board, this helped me learn through the eyes of peers. I also learned with the rule "3 before me." Therefore technology made it easier to collaborate with...

As a young adult in this current day and age, I have experience with technology every single day. I grew up learning on laptops and other electronic devices. I also have created presentations on Powerpoint and Prezi. In my middle school years, I was required to take a "Computers" class that taught me some basic skills behind Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint. Other than these systems, I am also well versed in using Canva. I use this website to produce marketing material for Victoria's Secret PINK on Florida State's campus as I am a representative of this company. In this class I hope to refine my skills of these systems. I also hope to learn about other systems that can help me in my career. Although I am not an Education major, I plan on having teaching as my backup because I do enjoy working with children. Creating newsletters and other presentations are good skills that can help someone in any field they work for.
